Plantar Fasciitis is an inflammation of the planter fascia located on the sole of your foot. It runs from your heel to the base of your toes. This injury occurs as a result of overuse and stress on the plantar fascia.
Some symptoms include:
- Pain on first few steps when getting up in the morning
- Pain along the heel
- Perhaps some swelling
Treatment:
In an acute condition, ice will be placed on affected area, while working the calf and hamstring muscle. In order to decrease the edema, lymphatic draining will be used
In chronic condition, heat can be applied to the calf muscle. This helps increase circulation and soften tissues. Like in an acute condition, we will massage the calf and hamstrings as well as any other compensating structures. An important aspect of this treatment is to work the plantar fascia itself. We will focus on any adhesions found along the plantar fascia especially near the heel. We can also incorporate some muscle work along the small muscles of the foot.
